RESPONDERS’ COMMENTS FOR CSE 231 LEC1 (SS23)

  • Question 2: The instructor was available and willing to help the student. Explain:
    • Consistent communication in person and through email.
    • Dr Sands has helped me personally with some academic difficulties, he was very very respectful and I really felt like he wanted to help me.
    • Dr. Sands was always very helpful and willing to lend a hand with understanding the content. Overall, such a great guy. He was very understanding of the students point of view. Very personable guy.
    • Dr. Sands was extremely helpful during his office hours and wanted to help me succeed in the class.
    • Dr. Sands wasn’t often present during my lecture time, but we could schedule meetings with him.
    • Good instructor, prompt email responses and eager to help
    • He did a great job making sure that every student was able to learn, and learn in a way best for them
    • I went to his office hour regarding my concern and really felt like he cared for my grades and mental health.
    • Whenever I would see him in lab, he was always very helpful and answered my questions.
    • Whenever present in class, Professor Sands was always willing to help and did so with kindness.

    • Dr. Sands explained the course material very well and made learning exciting. He genuinely cared about students’ success.
    • Prof Sands explained things clearly and although I might’ve not understood it completely, he did give a second opinion which made things somewhat better.
    • Sands has taught me things a few times, and he did a great job explaining difficult tasks.
  • Question 6: The instructor was well-prepared for classes and other related course activities. Explain:
    • Dr. Sands was always prepared with answer questions I would ask him in office hours.
    • Master of the course material, seemed to have a handle on all sections.
  • Question 8: The instructor organized the course well. Explain:
    • Dr. Sands portion of the course always was very thorough and sensible.
    • I think the progression of things were good. For example, building what we’ve learning to do future projects. Just instructions were confusing. I understood what needed to be done every week though.

    • A good instructor
    • With this course, I fell in love with Computer Science more, and will be glad to take next CSE courses. I would keep updating this class, add more modern stuff, alternative approach to some projects, interesting hints. I want to see how this class would be improved after few years.

  • Question 2: The instructor was available and willing to help the student. Explain:
    • Responded to emails
    • This instructor seemed like a nice person.
    • Very good instructor, prompt email response, eager to help
    • Very helpful and responsive for the slight questions I had.
  • Question 4: The instructor explained course material clearly. Explain:
    • Again, needed to show more of himself, seems like a better more understanding professor but is overshadowed by Imen.
    • Projects guided by the professor was very intuitive to understand. Spoke clearly and slowly.

    • Needs to show more of himself in the course for me it seemed like he was a the backup at times.

    • Dr. Sands, please show more of yourself. Everyone else and I agree that Imen overshadows you and what’s seen of you off read my professor you’re not that bad.
    • Sands was great, Zaabar was rude and spoke poorly about students to TA’s during exams.
